Strengthen Your Willpower With Posture

Strengthen Your Willpower With Posture
Is it possible to strengthen your willpower? A study has given us new insight on how posture can play a roll in increasing your willpower.

This year I am going to be making weekly videos, if not multiple videos a week mixing together science, health, inspiration, the Bible and sometimes history and also the brain. So, different ones will have different subjects. Today I am going to start with a quotation that’s found in a book called Child Guidance. It says, “Among the first things to be aimed at should be a correct position, both in sitting and in standing. God made man upright, and He desires him to possess not only the physical but the mental and moral benefit...” pg. 364 Now, is there actually a moral benefit to having correct posture? Someone actually put this to the test. You read about it in the journal of social psychology. What we read is that they took college students and they told them that over the course of the next two weeks, every time that they noticed they were slouching, try to actually straighten themselves out whether they are sitting or standing but always to have better posture. So, over the course of these two weeks, these college students were doing that and what they discovered was at the end of the two-week period, after they had done this, they gave them certain tests that would measure their willpower. What they discovered is that over the course of two weeks having better posture actually increased the willpower of those students who actually would attempt to do this over this time period. Posture actually increases your willpower, which is part of your morality. This is fascinating! How is a way we can simply have good posture or at least know what it is like to have good posture? One of the things you can do is just stand and if your posture is kind of bad, if you just reach your arms up above your head and put your arms down. It puts your body into a proper position to have good posture. You can do this. This is something that you can implement in your own life this year to try to have better posture, but as a result benefiting your morals and giving you a stronger willpower.

Are you ready to give it a try?
